Clouds of Xeen Guide takes us through the perils of Xeen and strives to give you the info you need to explore and solve the game in conjunction with your own mapping process. Refer often to the Data page to get key details about Weapons, Foes, Spells during your play. Quick Start

This purpose of this quick start is to provide at least one proven method to reach level 8+ quickly and without excessive risk. I am providing a higher level of step detail in this quick start section only. In this quick start we will dip our toes into a few towns and dungeons to collect a few key spells, skills, and permanent boosts.

Vertigo
Size: 32x32

You can map and clear the whole town and complete the Quest to Rid Vertigo of the plague of pests then train 2 or 3 levels depending on your classes. Key Spells to pick up early are Jump and Revitalize. Jump allows you to cross 1x water and forest tiles without Walk on Water, Swimming, or Pathfinding. Using Jump, you can collect Spells, Cure Poison and Cure Disease in F-3. You can also use successive Jumps to traverse a Forest, if you need or want to. Revitalize helps with WEAK condition if you want to limit resting, plus a few foes you will face soon grant WEAK condition. Otherwise, save the gold for Level Training. There are 19 Item loot nodes in Vertigo, hopefully you will not need to buy much gear at all, except for a Missile weapon.

If you want to farm the potions, they Sell for 155g each and 50x155=7750. or 15,500g with Merchant

You can sidle in here and speak with Mirabeth for the Yak Stone of Opening but be careful of Stinger attention, they are a little too tough for you right now. Before we go to the Ancient Temple of Yak, let's dip into Nightshadow and purchase the Levitate and Turn Undead spells.

We are not ready to clear this zone.. but you can map your way to the Guild and Membership vendor which luckily are near to each other. You will need to take out a few packs of Bat Queens, but they have no missile attack or spells so they are an easy real-time engagement kill. Buy Levitate and Turn Undead then get out of town.

Use Levitate to avoid the pit traps. We are going to explore the 2 southern paths only for now. You will face Skeletons and Clerics of Yak. There are switches here that need to be flipped to open the passageways we need. Start with the right-most southern path at 6,14. Do not open any coffins!! Just grab what we are here for and get out. Skip the rooms with Yak Priest, we'll be back. Grab Hypnotize, it is very useful in the early game. It is a group control spell that prevents foes from acting and makes them easier to hit. We will use this on the Wicked Witches in the Witch Tower, right now!

The Head Witch is not trivial and do your best to avoid fighting her along with a pack of Wicked Witches. She has less than 100 HP and goes down pretty fast, don't let the fight drag on as that will favor her. If you land a Hypnotize, she is done.

If you are curious why this game is called "Clouds" of Xeen... go UP the stairs at 10,10. Just take a peek then head back to town to Train, Repair, and Resupply before planning your next move. Don't forget to talk to the old lady about the Alacorn of Falista. This is the end of the quick start. In my case, I am level 8 across the board and it is day 57. I know this can be done in way less days than 57, I did some pointless backtracking on guide making missions.

Now we are going to clear the zone but we will need to defeat Count Draco. According to the clue at 4,6 we will need to look for Count Draco at night. This town is not a full town, there is only a Guild and Portal Mirror. Defeating Draco is worth 50,000 XP and 99,999 gold.

Be sure to check the Foes list, foes in here have a variety of resistances and elemental damage. Many coffins will first spawn 1 or 2 Yak Liches and once defeated, gold, Gems, and L3 Items can be recovered. You may have to come back later for the Yak Master, the rest is very doable at this point if you have been collecting everything mentioned thus far.

When you have 50,000 gold, you need to buy Land for Newcastle.  Find Ebenezer the Taxman in C-4 @11,12.  Once you purchase, go see the Engineer in Castle Burlock @2,7 and purchase the first upgrade.

After buying the first upgrade, explore Newcastle and you will be given the Stone of a Thousand Terrors which is a dungeon key.

After buying the second upgrade, explore Newcastle and you will be given the Golem Stone of Admittance which is a dungeon key.

After buying the third upgrade, explore Newcastle Dungeon (passcode: Laboratory) and you will find the Xeen Slayer sword @7,4

You need the Teleport spell to complete this dungeon, as far as I can tell. Be sure to Set a beacon either here at the start of the dungeon or better, in Rivercity near the Well. Bring Energy damage.

First, do the South area and flip these switches: 1,1 | 9,1 | 1,6 | 9,6 | 1,13 | 9,13 -- In each case, you need to teleport out of the small chamber you create into the larger center chamber.

Next, the North area, where you will flip in this order: 1,23 | 1,26 | 1,29 | 1,23 | 1,29 and yes 2 are repeated. If you did it correctly, you will see a White Box on 5,30 and 5,29 and the rest should be Glowing Rocks from 5,28 - 5,23.

Next, the East area, flip only these switches 21,20 | 23,20 | 21,14 | 23,24 | 19,25 and THEN jump in the teleporter at 22,25. Avoid the teleporter at 29,25.

At this point, the dungeon becomes more linear and you will face Diamond Golems on the way to the end. Come back later if you need to.

You can use Teleport spell to avoid the dragon tax urns, but more importantly, use Teleport to initiate combat with dragons. When there are a pair of dragons near to each other, teleport such that you will be on top of 1 dragon and the other is out of view, ideally behind. Using this tactic, you can isolate the dragons to fight 1 at a time. (and skip the dragon tax)

You can approach from the South in E-2, then Teleport 3N onto the entrance. To crush the 2 Skulls on level 1 you want to try and minimize the steps on lava. The Skull at 9,9 can be approached with a Teleport from 14,9 and once the skull is crushed, another teleport to 3,9 works well, no steps or turns required. The Skull at 0,15 requires 1 step. Stand at 1,7 facing N. Side-step to 0,7 then Teleport 8N. Crush the Skull and then Town Portal or Lloyd's Beacon to get out. On Level 2, from the stairs, simply Teleport 9W and nevermind Level 2. On Level 3, from 15,10 just Teleport 6W and welcome to Shangri-la.
