MM8 Hirelings add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th member to your travelling party and there are 35 hirelings to find during your adventure. Once you find a hireling and convince them to join your roster they will hang out in the Adventurers Inn awaiting your call.
Hirelings have starting gear, spells, skills, and a pool of skill points. You are able to gain experience, level up, train skills, and upgrade their gear as with your main character. Hirelings conveniently retain all their gear when you send them back to the Adventurers Inn — making it quick and easy to swap in and out hirelings as needed. There is no cost to employing hirelings.
Unfortunately, the game design does not really require you to use hirelings, nor does it inspire you to try out different hirelings. Some players complete the game with only their main character and so it is really up to you to decide how to use your hirelings. Return to Party Planning to continue building your party.
