BT3 Building Strength – Thief of Fate

BT3 Building Strength is provided to help you find the best grind spots and the best gear for your heroes. This is how you get started.

Things to NOT learn the hard way

  • A Bard is required to complete the game.
  • Anti-Magic areas limit spell casting but spells cast from items are allowed.
  • Songs and Spells may only be available in certain Volumes, check Spells Database.
  • There are no vendors, but there is a storage building in Skara Brae.
  • Rogues and Chronomancers can Identify items.
  • After solving Skara Brae dungeons, all Conjurer, Wizard, and Sorcerer characters will be converted to Archmage and will get a level bump.
  • You will select an Archmage to become a Chronomancer.

Encounters

A random encounter occurs when taking steps or when standing idle. Random encounters will include random enemies fit for the map that you are in.

Fixed-Location encounters can retrigger on the same tile predictably each time the dungeon floor is reset. The dungeon floor resets by changing floors. The location is fixed but in most cases the foe you will face is random still.

Grind Strategy

Calculating a good grind
Take a look at Foes Database and search for "Ciera", notice that the foes with the highest Group Factor are Shade Dog and Shade Wolf. Next, notice the XP award.. 2000 for a Shade Wolf and it will come in really big groups compared to the Shade Ghoul which is 3500 almost double but they will come in very small groups..

so just for comparison
Shade Wolf (2000xp) x 30 = 60,000xp /7 = 8571xp
Shade Ghoul (3500xp) x 8 = 28,000xp /7 = 4000xp

When grinding XP (or always), run from time consuming encounters that have fewer enemies. Spend your time destroying large groups of enemies. When ever you get to a new area or dungeon floor, check the Foes List. Math!
